Equal Opportunities Policy

Our commitment to a safe, fair and welcoming club for every student and every member of staff.

A Club for Everyone

Tiger Martial Arts (TMA) is fully committed to equal opportunities for both students and staff.

As per the Equality Act 2010, which prohibits discrimination on all grounds, we ensure that all individuals are treated with equal favour and have equal opportunities to enjoy recreation, work and personal development, free from discrimination of any type.

The Equality Act 2010 protects everyone from discrimination on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership, and pregnancy and maternity. At TMA, every one of those is respected - in the training hall and out of it.

What this means in practice

In everything we do, people are treated fairly. A student's place in a class, the coaching and attention they receive, their grading and their chances to progress are based on their effort, ability and attitude - never on their background, their beliefs or who they are. We follow the same Government guidance that is issued to schools (Equality Act 2010: advice for schools), so our approach matches the educational settings we so often work in.

Supporting additional needs

We welcome students with additional needs, and martial arts can be brilliant for building confidence, focus, coordination and self-control. We will always make reasonable adjustments where we can. Our classes are group-based and instructor-led, though, so there are some needs we may not be able to meet safely on our own. If your child has additional needs, please talk to us before they start. We will have an honest, friendly conversation about what we can offer, so that we can make sure it is the right fit for your child and for the rest of the class.

What we expect from everyone

Respect is one of our TIGERS values - Teamwork, Integrity, Growth, Energy, Respect and Self-control - and we expect every student, parent and instructor to live up to it. Treat others as you would want to be treated. Discrimination, bullying and harassment of any kind have no place at TMA, in the training hall or anywhere else.

If something is not right

If you or your child ever feel you have been treated unfairly, please tell us. The quickest way is to speak to your instructor, who will listen and act. You are also welcome to contact us directly. If your concern is about a child's safety, please see our Safeguarding Policy. To raise a formal complaint, please see our Resolutions page. We would always far rather know about a problem, so that we can put it right.

If you have any questions about our Equal Opportunities Policy, please do not hesitate to contact us.
